The Gossage Building is a Period Style brick commercial building. It has Ionic type plaster caps and a partial cornice serving as a cap above the windows. There are small corbelled type brackets above the block mullions on the second floor. From the Petaluma Argus on April 13, 1909:
“The building will be one of the finest in Petaluma and will front on two streets...the upper floor will be fitted up with modern office suites and an elegant lodge room with ante rooms, banquet hall etc. On the first floor, J.A. McCallister will occupy a store with frontage on both sides. A new drug store will occupy the other Main Street store. The building will replace the old Thompson building now being demolished and which was one of the oldest landmarks in the city.”
